A Bit of History........
The original 25th Regiment was formed in January 1776 from the militia companies surrounding Boston. Most of the men in the 25th had been serving since April 1775 with many of them seeing action on Breed's Hill, known to us as the Battle of Bunker Hill.
Originally posted to Greene's Brigade, the regiment saw action throughout the Long Island and New York campaigns retreating into Northern New Jersey with the main army under General George Washington.
The 25th Regiment was almalgamated with the 24th as part of the 2nd Battalion of the 3rd Mass Regiment in 1777 as part of Nixon's Brigade. The 3rd Mass was part of the Northern Department of the Continental Army and saw action as part of General Horatio Gate's army at Saratoga.
Our research has shown that men from our home town of Southampton, MA served with the 25th. An honor roll of site names comes to the surface: Long Island, White Plains, Saratoga, Fort Edward, Fort Ticonderoga, Mount Independence and Northern New Jersey all have meaning to the 25th.
In fact... the only uniform button that seems to have survived was reportedly found in one of Benedict Arnold's wrecked boats following the Battle of Battle of Valcour Island on Lake Champlain.
